Remembering: Miami Edison Middle School Years
God works in mysterious ways. Some months ago I was chatting with a friend who started to talk about all the memories we shared. Although I remembered I wanted to forget.
On Saturday, I got a message from a girl who said we attended middle school together. I really don't remember her or the people she said she hung around with. I wanted to remember but I forgot.

DIY: Loc Maintenance
Welcome to the first series of Do-It-Yourself! As you all know my hair is locked. I've had my hair like this for about 13 months. I love it! When I first started my locks I would go to a lady to get them done. She started my locks for $100 and she maintained them for $60. And back in those days I always wanted my hair twisted. So you could imagine how much money I was spending. But then I got smart -- I realized that I could do my own hair - or let my sister do it for the price of $FREE.99. And so that's what I have been doing. Take a look at my process . . .

Zoophiles
So I read the New Times today and it was about zoophiles ("zoos"). I know you are like what the hell is a zoophile. Yes, that's the same question I asked. Well that was until I saw the front page.
Advice To A 19 YO 1L
Dear Ms. 19 YO:
As a new attorney who doesn't foresee a career in law, I want to pass on some advice I wished someone would have told me.
1. girl you are a genius, copping law school debt is no joke. you scored a 174 on the LSAT and you graduated with a 3.4 GPA. you can go to a top law school and not pay a cent out of pocket.
2. don't go to law school for the heck of it. i truly believe that if you attend law school you should use your law degree in some capacity. you want to be a science fiction author -- girl find a less stressful route to attain your goal.

Oh Don't You Wish . . .
You were a Spelmanite like me! The headlines read: "Spelman College Named Top HBCU in 2010 US News College Rankings." Such an excellent way to bring in the new academic year. Check out more about my fabulous Alma Mater as well as where your HBCU is ranked.

Peter v. Judas
So my pastor spoke about forgiveness and reconciliation this morning. He alluded to the English idiom The Elephant in the Room. This idea is based on the concept that an elephant in a room would be impossible to overlook; thus, people in the room who pretend the elephant is not there might be concerning themselves with relatively small and even irrelevant matters, compared to the looming big one. So there is an OBVIOUS problem that is being ignored.
We have all had that awkward silence when we are in a room with someone we had an issue with. What I love about my Pastor is that he makes the Bible simple and we can relate it to our real life situations. My Pastor spoke about addressing the elephant in the room. This sermon really hit home for me. Throughout my adult life I had 3 close friendships which turned sour. And it wasn't until the 3rd happening (when I became much wiser) that I decided to do something about it -- I addressed the situation. I consider myself to be nonconfrontational. I don't like entertaining drama because I'm crazy. I am too ghetto and crazy to have drama. Serious. But as a mature adult I am learning how to deal with life. Friends are always going to have some type of disagreement. We gonna fight but true friends can come back and move forward. I have learned to listen to the other side, accept fault, and move on.

Insanely Pampered Hollywood . . .
DOGS! DOGS! DOGS!
Did you get that Insanely Pampered Hollywood Dogs.
Hell to the naw. I remember my girl in law school telling me how much America's treatment of animals especially dogs are insane. She told me about how in Jamaica a dog ain't ---- (fill in the blank). I am sympathetic to dogs, I don't believe that they should starve or be trained to fight. But if it ever comes between a dog and a homeless man in Little Haiti, it's going to be the homeless dude. But this shit on E is ridiculous and excessive.

Stepping Out!
So I've decided to go out on a limb and invite facebook friends to become a part of the site. I must admit I was very hesitant. I went through 55 pages of friends and at the very end I was like -- all these folk don't need to know my business. I was about to just exit and forget about it. But I have learned to be brave and to do what my heart and mind think is right.
I know only a few people who I admire because they are so honest. Brutally honest. Transparent. I wish that one day I can be like that. I must say that just because someone is not honest and open with everyone does not mean that they are FAKE. I'm definitely not saying that! But what I am saying is that creating this blog has forced me to confront some issues I deal with on my own, in my head, late at night, in my bed, alone. It's very therapeutic.

Did You Know . . .
that beavers remain couples for life? They never ever get new partners. No divorcing, no cheating, no baby mama drama. Wow. Who would have known that we could learn so much from a rodent!

Recommitted
So I've decided to come back. It's been over a year since I've posted anything. I opened a new site called Girl Talk on the Ning network system. I haven't really put in the effort that I should on that site -- but I will, I promise.
I'm trying to figure out my next steps. I have a ton of ideas I want to work on. I'm looking into opening a boutique (possibly with some of my own designs) and a jewelry line. When you ask - uhm in the next 2-3 years. I'm also deeply considering starting a PhD program in the fall. I want to become an undergrad Professor. My homeboy told me not to do it for society. I was kinda offended when he said that. I'm a revolutionary in my own right -- i don't follow people's paths I create my own! I do what I want to do - never what other's expect. I truly wouldn't commit to 5 years of schooling just to get a Dr. in front of my name. I have way more sense and I am so secure in who I am. But I am truly considering PhD as an option -- so I will keep you updated on that. When I think about my life, I feel like I should have 3 lifetimes because in my head there is so much I can do, so much I'm great at, and so much I'm passionate about.
